ONE Introduces Emergency Inland Fuel Surcharge Amid Middle East Escalation

Shipping Arabia, March 22, 2026 – Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the implementation of an Emergency Inland Fuel Surcharge (IFP) in response to ongoing disruptions linked to the security situation in the Middle East.

The carrier stated that recent developments, including the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have significantly impacted global fuel availability and distribution. Reduced refinery capacity and constrained export volumes have further intensified volatility in fuel supply chains.

As a result, ONE will apply the surcharge across inland transportation services for all sectors, calculated as a percentage of inland freight rates. The measure is intended to safeguard cargo integrity and maintain operational stability across its logistics network during the current period of uncertainty.

The surcharge will take effect from March 23, 2026, for trades not regulated by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), with applicable percentages varying by country and transport mode.

According to the company, the surcharge will reach up to 5% for direct trucking services in Panama and 3% for intermodal rail services. In Europe, the surcharge levels include 5% in Belgium, up to 10% in Denmark, 3% to 7% in France, 5% in Germany, and 3% to 5% in Hungary. Additional rates include 5% in Egypt and 1% to 2% in Italy.

ONE emphasized that the introduction of the emergency inland fuel surcharge is aimed at ensuring service continuity while mitigating the impact of rising fuel market volatility on inland logistics operations.
