Job Description
Logistics Dispatcher
As a Logistics Dispatcher, you will be the central hub of our transportation operations, ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of goods. Your responsibilities will include:
I. Dispatch & Route Management:
- Strategic Planning & Scheduling: Develop and optimize truck routes and delivery schedules, considering driver availability, equipment capacity, delivery deadlines, traffic, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Hours of Service).
- Load Procurement & Negotiation: Secure loads and negotiate competitive rates with brokers to maximize profitability and equipment utilization.
- Driver & Equipment Assignment: Accurately assign drivers and appropriate equipment to loads based on qualifications, suitability, delivery needs, and geographical positioning.
- Real-time Monitoring & Proactive Management: Utilize GPS and tracking systems to monitor truck location and shipment progress, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays or issues.
II. Communication & Coordination:
- Driver Communication: Provide clear, concise dispatch instructions, load details, route information, and real-time updates to drivers via various communication channels.
- Customer Communication: Deliver timely updates on shipment status and estimated delivery times to customers, proactively communicating any potential delays.
- Internal Collaboration: Coordinate seamlessly with warehouse staff for loading/unloading schedules and with the accounting department for accurate billing and payroll.
III. Operational Efficiency & Problem Solving:
- Issue Resolution: Effectively manage and resolve unexpected operational challenges, such as traffic delays, mechanical issues, or delivery complications, to minimize disruption.
- Equipment Optimization: Strategically plan loads to maximize equipment utilization and minimize empty miles, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like target rate per mile and weekly revenue goals to assess and improve dispatch effectiveness.
IV. Compliance & Administration:
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules, Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines, and company safety protocols.
- Maintenance Coordination: Facilitate communication between drivers and the maintenance department for equipment issues, coordinating necessary repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the Transportation Management System (TMS), including dispatches, driver assignments, delivery confirmations, equipment status, and incident logs.
- TMS Proficiency: Expertly utilize and optimize features within the transportation management system to enhance dispatch operations.
