There Are More Than 470 Ships Waiting To Berth Due To Port Congestion In China

According to Bloomberg shipping data There were 222 bulk ships waiting off Shanghai as of April 11. Queues of vessels carrying raw materials and grains have jumped after the lockdown to combat COVID-19 at the end of March2022. After more than two weeks, the congestion has expanded to Ningbo-Zhoushan port as ship owners divert thier ships to avoid the trucker shortage and warehouse closures in Shanghai.

At Ningbo-Zhoushan port there were 134 carriers. While further north, the combined ports of Rizhao, Dongjiakou and Qingdao saw a 33% increase to 121 vessels. Dispite this , There were 197 container ships either loading or waiting to load in Shanghai’s combined anchorage with Ningbo with an increase by 17% from a month ago.
