Maersk & Hapag-Lloyd suspends the passage of their fleet through Bab al-Mandab

Due to the repeated attacks and threats against cargo ships and containers in the Red Sea, shipping companies’ concerns are increasing, leading to disruptions in supply chains and problems in global shipping movement.

The Danish shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk announced on Friday, December 15, through its official spokesman, that it will stop all container shipping operations through the Red Sea until further notice, in order to take a longer route around Africa.

This came in the wake of an accident involving the Maersk Gibraltar ship on Thursday, and another attack on a container ship. Accordingly, the company issued instructions to all its ships in the region destined to pass through the Bab al-Mandab Strait to stop their journey until further notice.

After one of the ships belonging to Hapag-Lloyd, which controls about 7% of the global container ship fleet, was attacked near Yemen. The company announced the decision that it had taken to stop flights there until December 18
