Valaris DS-12 Arrives in Egypt Ahead of Four-Well Gas Drilling Campaign in the Mediterranean
The offshore drilling unit Valaris DS-12 has arrived in Egyptian territorial waters, marking the beginning of a new offshore drilling campaign targeting natural gas resources in the Mediterranean Sea. The move comes as part of Egypt’s ongoing strategy to expand exploration and production (E&P) activities in cooperation with international energy partners.
The rig is scheduled to begin operations by drilling one development well and one exploration well for bp, before later moving to drill two additional exploration wells for Arcius Energy, a joint venture between BP and #ADNOC.
This drilling program forms part of broader efforts to intensify exploration activities across Mediterranean offshore concession areas, supporting Egypt’s plans to increase natural gas production and maximize the development of hydrocarbon resources.
The arrival of the offshore drilling unit and the resumption of drilling operations also reflect the continued confidence of international energy companies in Egypt’s oil and gas investment climate, particularly in light of the incentives and reforms implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to attract new investments and accelerate exploration and development programs.
In cooperation with international partners, the Ministry aims to implement an intensive drilling program exceeding 100 exploration wells in 2026, alongside the development of existing fields, in a strategic effort to boost reserves and strengthen Egypt’s future production capacity.
