Lean Production VS Lean Manufacturing

Lean production and lean manufacturing are often used interchangeably, but there is a slight difference between them.

Lean manufacturing is a philosophy and approach to manufacturing that focuses on eliminating waste and maximizing efficiency throughout the entire manufacturing process. It aims to create a production system that can deliver high-quality products with minimal waste, inventory, and lead time. Lean manufacturing is typically applied to the entire production system, including product design, procurement, manufacturing, and delivery.

Lean production, on the other hand, is a narrower concept that refers specifically to the production processes within a manufacturing plant or factory. It involves applying lean principles to the production processes themselves, such as assembly lines, machining operations, and quality control. Lean production focuses on streamlining production processes, reducing waste, and optimizing efficiency.

In summary, lean manufacturing is a broad approach to manufacturing that encompasses all aspects of the production system, while lean production is a narrower concept that specifically refers to the production processes within a manufacturing plant.
