Egypt Allocates Land for Red Sea Shipyard Expansion and Infrastructure Projects

Egypt’s Cabinet has approved the allocation of 40,000 square meters of state-owned land in Safaga, Red Sea Governorate, to the Suez Canal Authority for the development of the South Red Sea shipyard, as part of efforts to enhance maritime industrial capacity.

The decision supports expansion plans for the Suez Canal Company for Modern Boats, including the establishment of a new manufacturing facility aimed at increasing annual production capacity from 30 to 50 tugboats. The move aligns with national directives to strengthen Egypt’s shipbuilding and maritime services capabilities.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved the allocation of 633.19 feddans in Saint Catherine, South Sinai, to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the expansion of Saint Catherine Airport. The project will include the development of a new passenger terminal and parking facilities, supporting broader plans to enhance tourism infrastructure under the “Great Transfiguration” development program.

Additionally, the government approved the allocation of 52.36 feddans in Arab Abu Saed, Giza Governorate, to the Executive Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation Projects. The land will be used to expand wastewater treatment facilities serving areas from South Maadi to Arab Abu Saed, including 15th of May City.

The approvals reflect Egypt’s continued focus on strengthening maritime infrastructure, boosting industrial production, and advancing integrated development projects across key sectors.
