Summary:
the Purchasing Officer must manage a complex “bill of materials” that is sensitive to market fluctuations and seasonal trends.
Responsibilities:
-Procuring raw fibers (cotton, polyester, wool, silk) or yarns. This requires understanding “counts,” “denier,” and “blend ratios.”
-Sourcing dyes, fixatives, and finishing chemicals. You must ensure these meet environmental standards (like OEKO-TEX or GOTS) to avoid legal issues.
– If the company doesn’t do everything in-house, you’ll manage contracts with external “dye houses” or printing facilities.
-Textiles rely on heavy machinery (looms, spinning frames). You are responsible for sourcing specialized spare parts to minimize “downtime.”
-The fashion and textile world moves in seasons. You must time your purchases so the fabric is ready months before the clothes hit the shelves.
Requirement:
– A Bachelor’s degree in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration.
– Familiarity with reactive dyes, pigments, and finishing chemicals (softeners, resins).
-1–4 years of experience specifically within a textile mill, garment house, or buying agency (fresh graduate are most welcome).
