Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an effective procurement strategy for technical products and services that align with the organization’s goals.
- Analyze procurement needs in collaboration with engineering and technical teams, ensuring the timely acquisition of necessary materials and components.
- Research and identify new suppliers, technologies, and materials that can support project objectives, cost savings, and innovation.
- Identify and qualify suppliers based on their ability to meet technical specifications, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure continuous improvements in cost, quality, and lead times.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with suppliers to secure the best value for the organization.
- Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations, working with suppliers to address any issues and improve their performance.
- Ensure procurement activities remain within budget, identifying and implementing cost-saving strategies.
- Optimize procurement decisions to balance quality, cost, and performance for technical goods.
- Negotiate competitive pricing and favorable terms while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting technical requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, R&D, and production teams to understand project specifications and translate those into clear procurement requirements.
- Ensure that all procured goods and services meet the technical specifications and performance standards necessary for product development or production.
- Provide timely updates to internal stakeholders on procurement progress, potential risks, and supplier issues.
- Ensure that all procured materials and components meet the organization’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct audits and inspections of supplier products to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
- Manage and maintain certifications for procurement activities in compliance with relevant industry regulations (e.g., ISO, RoHS, UL).
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure optimal stock levels of critical materials to meet production demands while avoiding overstocking.
- Work with logistics and supply chain teams to manage lead times, delivery schedules, and potential bottlenecks in the supply chain.
- Develop contingency plans for critical supply shortages or disruptions, ensuring continuous supply and minimal impact on production timelines.
- Identify and assess procurement risks related to supply chain disruptions, quality concerns, or price fluctuations.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, such as sourcing alternative suppliers or creating buffer inventories for critical components.
- Maintain a flexible and proactive approach to managing procurement challenges and mitigating risks to production.
- Continuously evaluate and improve procurement processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Implement and maintain procurement management software, ensuring that all orders, supplier communications, and inventory management are tracked and documented accurately.
- Identify opportunities to automate procurement functions and streamline workflows.
- Provide regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, cost savings, and inventory status to senior management.
- Use procurement analytics and data to identify trends, forecast future procurement needs, and propose improvements to procurement strategies.
- Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to improve their performance and expertise.
- Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture within the procurement team and across departments.
Key Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in technical procurement, with at least 3 years in a technical or engineering procurement role.
- Proven experience in managing procurement for engineering, manufacturing, or technical production environments.
- Strong understanding of technical products, materials, and components (e.g., mechanical parts, electronics, semiconductors, and raw materials).
- Strong understanding of technical specifications and how to translate these into procurement requirements.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, RoHS, UL, CE) and how they apply to procurement.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement tools.
- Skills:
