Job Summary

The Production Manager holds a pivotal leadership role overseeing the entire production cycle, from raw materials to finished products ready for delivery. This includes extrusion, injection, assembly, packaging, and delivery. The role focuses on strategic planning, process implementation, efficiency improvement, and ensuring product quality according to standards and requirements, while coordinating across departments. The manager also works to improve performance by implementing new technologies, reducing waste, maintaining equipment, and motivating teams, while adhering to safety and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Cycle Management:

• Oversee the complete production cycle, from raw material preparation to final product delivery.
• Develop and implement comprehensive production plans, aligning with customer requirements, inventory levels, and capacity.
• Ensure synchronization between extrusion, injection molding, assembly, and packaging processes to minimize downtime.

Raw Material and Resource Management:

• Collaborate with the procurement team to source high-quality raw materials.
• Monitor material blending, feeding, and storage to ensure proper preparation for extrusion and injection molding.
• Optimize material usage to reduce waste and manage costs effectively.

Extrusion Operations:

• Manage extrusion lines for manufacturing plastic sheets.
• Set and monitor critical parameters, such as melt temperature, screw speed, and cooling rates, to maintain consistency.
• Address common extrusion challenges, such as die swell, uneven thickness, or surface imperfections.

Injection Molding Operations:

• Supervise injection molding processes for producing high-precision parts, ensuring proper mold changes and cycle optimization.
• Monitor variables like injection speed, holding pressure, and cooling time to meet quality standards.

Assembly and Packaging:

• Oversee post-production processes, including trimming, welding, or assembly of molded and extruded components.
• Ensure packaging is aligned with product specifications and customer delivery requirements.
• Coordinate logistics for on-time delivery of finished goods to customers or warehouses.

Quality Assurance:

• Implement and monitor quality control systems throughout the production cycle.
• Collaborate with QA teams to perform inspections and tests, such as tensile strength, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 9001, etc.) and customer specifications.

Operational Efficiency and Process Optimization:

• Identify bottlenecks across the production cycle and implement solutions to improve throughput.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste, reduce cycle times, and optimize resource utilization.
• Introduce automation and advanced technologies to enhance productivity and accuracy.

Equipment and Maintenance:

• Ensure all machinery, including extruders, injection molding machines, and auxiliary equipment, operates efficiently.
• Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with the technical and maintenance teams for timely repairs and spare part management.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

• Enforce adherence to workplace safety standards across all production stages.
• Conduct regular safety audits and implement risk mitigation strategies.
• Promote sustainable practices, such as recycling scrap materials and reducing energy consumption.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team, including operators, technicians, supervisors, and quality inspectors.
• Conduct training programs to enhance team capabilities in extrusion, injection molding, and assembly.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within the production team.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Utilize production data to generate reports on efficiency, output, defect rates, and resource utilization.
• Provide actionable insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.
• Monitor KPIs across the full production cycle and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Production) or related field
• 12+ years of experience in production management (plastics industry), with at least 5 years in a management role
• Previous experience in the plastics industry
• A proven track record of managing successful production operations from start to finish
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Distinctive leadership and team building abilities
• Working knowledge of Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
• Experience in managing large work teams
• Experience in global production management
