Job Summary:
The Materials Planning Specialist oversees the planning, procurement, and management of raw materials to support the production processes in plastic manufacturing. The role involves ensuring timely and cost-effective material availability, optimizing inventory levels, and coordinating with suppliers and internal teams to meet production schedules and customer demand. Extensive experience in plastic manufacturing materials is essential to this role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Material Requirement Planning (MRP):
- Develop and maintain a materials requirement plan based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand.
- Ensure materials are available on time to prevent any disruption in the production process while minimizing excess inventory.
2. Inventory Management:
- Monitor and analyze material consumption and report on material usage, stock levels, and order accuracy. and adjust inventory policies based on consumption trends and production variability.
- Prepare regular inventory reports for management, highlighting any issues with stock levels, supplier performance, or material shortages.
- Track KPIs such as material lead times, inventory turnover, and stock accuracy to drive continuous improvement in material management
3. Supplier Coordination:
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to material quality, lead times, or logistics.
- Work with suppliers to optimize material specifications for plastic manufacturing, such as enhancing material quality or switching to more cost-effective alternatives.
4. Forecasting & Demand Planning:
- Analyze historical data, market trends, and production forecasts to predict future material needs.
- Communicate demand forecasts to procurement and suppliers, ensuring they can meet future needs without delay or stockouts.
5. Production Support:
- Work closely with production teams to align material availability with production schedules and address any material shortages or delays.
- Ensure that any material quality or availability issues are addressed promptly to avoid disruption to manufacturing processes.
6. Cost Control & Optimization:
- Regularly evaluate material costs and work with procurement to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Implement strategies for reducing scrap or excess material through careful planning and collaboration with the production team.
Required Qualifications:
• Education:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Experience:
o 3–5 years of experience in materials planning or materials management, must be in the plastic manufacturing industry.
